The solopreneur lifestyle can be lonely. We spend a lot of time with ourselves. This means we get trapped in our own thoughts on a daily basis. We question everything. We can get trapped in a cycle of "am I doing this right?", "I don't like what I put out", and all the negative language our brain wants us to hear. Some days, it's a never-ending cycle of negative thoughts. Those thoughts can drown our energy to produce the work we need to do for our business. They keep us from being our best selves for our company.
I know because I live in that cycle too. I'm working hard through my meditations, journaling practice and therapy to overcome those thoughts to show up for my community and my business. I want to present myself authentically on social media and content.
Surprisingly, it's a pool party that has helped me to jump into my business with a freer mindset.
Last week, my HOA hosted a summer pool party. We moved into our condo this past November and we were excited to connect with neighbors. We grabbed our drinks and headed to the pool. When we arrived, we saw no one swimming in the pool. Odd. Then a friend who also lives in the complex joined us. She was ready to jump into the pool. Bathing suit on. Towel in hand. She was informed by the person checking us in that we were not allowed to swim. Huh? It's a POOL PARTY. We're at a POOL. And we can't get into the POOL? What?
We learned the HOA President didn't want people swimming in the pool during the party. The kids who came ready to play had to sit around and listen to the adults talk. No splashing. No pool volleyball. Nothing. Instead, we all stood awkwardly around a pool full of water, recently skimmed from fallen leaves, and the gentle wind making ripples on top. The hues of blue were shining at us. It was inviting us in. It wanted us to jump in and enjoy the crisp water on a hot day.
Instead, we all stood at the edge of the pool looking in.
What's holding you back from being your best self in your business? What's keeping you from showing up in your marketing? Sharing on social media?
Are you standing at the edge of the pool looking in? Maybe it's time to break the rule and jump in anyway. Who knows, maybe you'll find a refreshing new perspective along the way!
Ready to leap into your social strategy? I'll help you along the way and even jump in with you!
Hugs and High Fives -
Becky
